HAPPY NATIONAL PEANUT DAY!

HAPPY NATIONAL PEANUT DAY!
Leonardo da Vinci's Peanuts.

September 13 is National Peanut Day!

In his time travels, Dan has found he needs to replenish nutrients in order to make a lean clean jump without severe consequences.  Thus, the never-ending search for a sandwich or a protein rich snack.

When it comes to those essential nutrients, peanuts are an excellent choice! They’re full of protein, fiber, and “good fats.”  They reduce inflammation in the body and aid the digestive system.

Peanuts lower cholesterol levels and can stop small blood clots from forming, reducing risk of stroke or heart attack.  They are a low glycemic food and can lower the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Peanuts provide protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.  They containB6, niacin, thiamin, and vitamin E; and magnesium, potassium, manganese, zinc, iron, and selenium.

Peanuts are not tree nuts, they’re legumes (related to beans) grown below ground. They originally came from Brazil or Peru.  In the 1500s Spanish and Portuguese explorers brought peanuts to Europe.  In the 1700s African slaves introduced peanuts to North America.  In the early 1800s, Americans started growing peanuts as a commercial crop.

In 1896, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, a physician and health food pioneer (the guy credited with inventing corn flakes), patented a process for creating peanut butter for his patients.  Peanut butter is a terrific workout snack to replenish your muscles.

Peanuts can be eaten raw, roasted, blanched, boiled, fried, powdered, or made into peanut butter.  Your authors like to bake peanut butter cookies (chunky peanut butter, of course) and sprinkle in chocolate chips for extra enrichment.

When he was in Chicago, Dan picked up a loaf of bread and a tin of Peter Pan peanut butter for his lunch.  Since then he’s sampled other brands and found them all equally good at restoring tachyons.
