HAPPY NATIONAL BEACH DAY!
National Beach Day on August 30 celebrates beaches across the country, from high tide to low. We love our nearby beaches (only 30 minutes away!) and we visit them whenever possible.
Hearst San Simeon State Park has fantastic views of the ocean and rocky shore. There’s a trail with interpretive panels about the wildlife and habitat.
The Piedras Blancas Rookery has boardwalks and viewing platforms where you can see the largest mainland colony of northern elephant seals year-round. There are on-site docents and educational panels to provide information. And a smell you would not believe.
Pismo State Beach is great for camping, surfing, fishing, and bird watching. The Moonstone Beach Boardwalk offers views of the ocean and wildlife near Cambria. In Cayucos we like to stroll along the iconic pier and view the surf, sand, and seagulls.
Our favorite beach is in Morro Bay, where the Rock forms a unique landmark. We frequently stop in Morro Bay for lunch and spend time looking at the boats in the bay and the surfers in the ocean. We enjoy building sandcastles on Morro Rock Beach and Morro Rock Jetty Beach.
This was our view yesterday from the Moonstone Boardwalk. Note the disgruntled wildlife. They expected French fries.
